Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho has claimed his decision to drop Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba from Manchester United’s starting XI to face Arsenal is for ‘technical and tactical’ reasons.
The top four clash ended 2-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Lukaku and Pogba sat on the substitutes bench as both players started against Southampton at the weekend.
Against Arsenal, Mourinho opted for front three of Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and the Portuguese defended his decision.
Asked his decision to drop Lukaku and Pogba, Mourinho replied, “You know, [it’s] technical and tactical decisions.
“We’re going to play with Lingard, Rashford and Martial. We did that already before I think recently against Young Boys.
“We weren’t successful in goals we wanted to score but were happy with the situations we created.
“In the first half versus Young Boys we didn’t score but had big chances. [They’re] young, fast, creative players even if they’re not what you’d call ‘killer’ when [they have a] chance to score a goal.”
