EPL: Why Arsenal should be blamed for Sanchez’s woes at Manchester United – Keown

Former Arsenal star Martin Keown has said that Arsenal should be blamed for Alexis Sanchez’s woes at Manchester United.

He said that the way Alexis Sanchez was over pampered at his old club had contributed to his woeful Manchester United form.

The Chile international joined Manchester United in January in a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the opposite direction.

However, the instant impact United manager, Jose Mourinho had hoped for has failed to materialize, with Sanchez scoring just once in his first 10 matches.

Sanchez had also admitted he expected more from himself at a press conference on Wednesday and revealed he was psychologically and emotionally drained in an emotional Instagram post yesterday.

Keown told Daily Mail, “I have spoken before about how Sanchez was being overindulged at Arsenal.

“At Manchester United he is just another member of the group and that is clearly affecting him.

“I remember watching training once at Arsenal and Sanchez came in on his day off wanting to train. I cannot imagine Jose Mourinho would take too well to that.

“Sanchez has all the tools to succeed at Old Trafford. He just needs to get his head down and simplify his game a little bit.

“He needs to start higher and wider and threaten defenders around the back as Marcus Rashford does, rather than cutting inside.

“Ultimately, Mourinho has to get the best from all his players. He does not have a shortage of quality in this dressing room.

“He just has to put the jigsaw puzzle together to create the perfect picture.”
