EPL: What Solskjaer said about Man United’s embarrassing 2-0 loss to Cardiff

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has revealed why his side lost 2-0 to relegated Cardif City on Sunday.

He also spoke about young Mason Greenwood who made his senior team debut today.

He said it was a ‘joy’ to watch Greenwood make his full debut in their insipid defeat to Cardiff.

The 17-year-old Greenwood made his first career start up front and managed six efforts on goal, including one strike that was tipped onto the post by Neil Etheridge.

“We’ve been poor,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“We’ve hit a brick wall towards the end of the season. Very disappointing. The big plus is the season’s over, draw a big line over it and look forward.

“Because we know we are too far behind where we want to be, 98 and 97 points is exceptional, the two teams, we’re five or six behind third, fourth, fifth and that’s realistically who we need to challenge for next year.

“They’ve been going through a tough period for the players, good players, towards the end of the season fatigued mentally, physically. Today with some confidence on the pitch you normally win that game and the most confident boy was Mason.

“It was great to see him, the joy that gave the fans, supporters, players, me a lift, that and Scott McTominay were the two big pluses.

“We’ve won 5-1 and lost 2-0 so what do you reckon that answer will be?” he added.

“But in that game we score two goals from two wonder strikes and are 2-0 up and everyone enjoys themselves.

“Today we had 75 per cent possession and 30-odd shots. Today is not a measure of where we’re at, performance.

“Today lots of young players there and all academy lads who we gave a chance to and know what this means. But of course we’re not where we want to be.”
