EPL: What Manchester United CEO, Woodward told Mourinho after 3-0 loss to Tottenham

Manchester United Chief Executive Officer, Ed Woodward once again visited the club’s dressing room after their defeat to Tottenham on Monday night to praise their performance.

Manchester United’s performance at first half of the game was good and should have gone ahead before half-time, particularly after Romelu Lukaku rounded Hugo Lloris only to drag his shot wide off the far post.

The second half, however, was bad for the Red Devils as Harry Kane and Lucas Moura ripped through their back-line to seal the biggest home defeat of Jose Mourinho’s career.

Mourinho was upbeat about his side’s performance afterwards and The Times, UK, reports that Woodward shared that view when he visited the dressing room.

It has become customary for United’s CEO to visit the players after matches, doing the same when they were beaten by Brighton.

The newspaper reports that the CEO offered both Mourinho and the players encouragement despite United making their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.

While some around the corridors of Old Trafford are unhappy with Mourinho’s style, Woodward remains upbeat and liked what he saw in the first half against Spurs.

He spoke at length with Mourinho on Monday night and still supports the Portuguese coach, and the board are reluctant to make a knee-jerk reaction and sack him.

The former Chelsea boss had been angry with many of his players after losing to Brighton, but the newspaper reports that he was simply disappointed on Monday night that a good performance had not been accompanied by the points he felt they deserved.
