Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been given assurances by the board that he will not be fired this season, according to the Evening Standard.

Solskjaer has only added Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James this summer, with Romelu Lukaku leaving for Inter Milan without being replaced.

United also failed to land players like Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Christian Eriksen.

The Old Trafford board knows the squad still need work and they will not judge Solskjaer too harshly on performances this season.

The Norwegian has been promised more transfer windows to revamp his team, working on the model of bringing in young British players wherever possible.

The Red Devils get their season underway on Sunday at home to Chelsea before playing Wolves, Crystal Palace and Southampton over the remainder of August.
