EPL Watch: Toure and Tevez sink Chelsea, Newcastle defeat Southampton

Chelsea’s top four hopes was dealt a serious blow at the Etihad, after they were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City on Sunday.

Frank Lampard missed a chance to give Chelsea the lead from the spot, after Joe Hart palmed his effort away.

Toure than latched onto David Silva’s cutback, took a touch past two players and curled a glorious shot pass Petr Cech. Rafa Benitez threw on Fernando Torres to partner Demba Ba upfront, but it was Carlos Tevez who had the last word, sending a thunderbolt past Cech.

At Saint James’ Park, Newcastle had more than enough to see off Southampton 4-2.

Morgan Schneiderlin gave the away side the lead with a third-minute strike, but Moussa Sissoko scored his third goal for the club to level up. Papiss Cisse then produced a moment of sheer brilliance to give the Magpies the lead.

Rickie Lambart equalised for the Saints five minutes after the break, before Yohann Cabaye and a Jos Hooiveld own goal 11 minutes from time ensured that the points stayed on Tyneside.
