Newcastle’s new midfield enforcer, Moussa Sissoko, scored his first two goals for the club, as they came from behind to defeat Chelsea 3-2. Jonas Guittierez headed the Magpies in front, before Mata curled in a delightful effort to make it 1-1. Lampard put the Blues in front, before Sissoko’s brace settled matters at Saint James.

At the Emirates, Arsenal overcame a stubborn Stoke City side 1-0, thanks to Lukas Podolski’s deflected free-kick. The visitors frustrated Arsene Wenger’s men for almost 80 minutes, with Begovic in fine form between the posts. However, Podolski, on in place of Oxlade-Chamberlain, saw his effort fly past a defender’s leg to earn them three vital points.

In other games, Everton drew 3-3 with Aston Villa, there were no goals between Norwich and QPR, Reading beat Sunderland 2-1, Wigan drew 2-2 with Southampton and West Ham finally got a win – defeating Swansea 1-0.
