Mikel Arteta scored twice from the spot, as Arsenal finally won a game in the Premiership, following a bad slump in form. It was a much improved performance from ther Gunners, who were booed off at full time last week following an embarrasing 2-0 defeat against Swansea. But they needed a fortuitous penalty to go ahead, after Santi Cazorla went down without much contact. Arteta, who missed in the last minute against Fulham earlier this season, calmly chipped the ball over Myhill. The home side were profligate in front of goal and needed another Arteta penalty to seal a 2-0 win.
Fellow Spaniard, Fernando Torres, also helped himself to a brace, to help Chelsea defeat Sunderland 3-1. The striker who scored twice in midweek against Nordsjaelland in the Champions League, connected superbly with a Hazard cross to give the Blues the lead. He doubled the lead from the spot, shortly before the break. He was unlucky to grab his hat-trick, but saw his deflected effort converted by Juan Mata. Sunderland grabbed a consolation goal through an exquisite Adam Johnson goal
Aston Villa drew 0-0 at home against Stoke, while Harry Redknapp saw QPR draw for the third consecutive game – a tight 2-2 affair with Wigan. Southampton won 1-0 at Saint Marys against Reading, while Michu’s brace was not enough, as Norwich shocked Swansea 4-3 at the Liberty Stadium.
