Titus Bramble’s own goal, gave Manchester United a 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, as Sir Alex Ferguson’s men edged closer to their 20th Premier League trophy.

Carlos Tevez, David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure all scored as fierce rivals Manchester City, ensured that the Red Devils will not be popping champagne yet, with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Newcastle.

Chelsea were shocked at Saint Marys Stadium, as Southampton defeated them 2-1, to rock their top four aspirations. Jay Rodriguez put the hosts ahead, before John Terry’s header drew the Blues level. Two minutes later, Rickie Lambert’s delightful free kick sailed past Petr Cech and the game ended that way.

Tottenham Hotspurs returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium, with Gareth Bale scoring one and setting up Jan Vertonghen for the other.

Arsenal were at their sparkling best, as they brushed Reading aside at the Emirates. Goals from Gervinho, Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Mikel Arteta kept the Gunners’ push for a top four alive.

In other games, Wigan beat Norwich 1-0 and West Ham defeated West Brom 3-1 at home.
