Manchester City took full advantage of Chelsea’s defeat against Newcastle earlier on Saturday, by beating Everton 1-0 at the Etihad.

Yaya Toure smashed in a first-half penalty after Sergio Aguero hobbled off injured, to ensure the champions are now only three point behind Jose Mourinho’s men.

In other games, 10-man Arsenal were beaten 3-2 at the Britannia, with their late fight back counting for nothing in the end, after the home side raced into a three-goal lead in the first half.

Liverpool were held to a goalless draw at home to Sunderland. Queens Park Rangers beat Burnley 2-0, Hull City also drew 0-0 with West Brom and there were no goals between Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace.
