Juan Mata and Frank Lampard scored for Chelsea, as they defeated Arsenal 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The home side started on the front foot and should have scored more in a shockingly one-sided half. However, few seconds after Olivier Giroud fluffed his lines, after a neat through pass from Walcott, Mata controlled Hazard’s lofted pass and smashed the ball past Sczcensy. Lampard added the second shortly, drilling in his spot-kick, after Sczcensy fouled Ramires.

Arsene Wenger’s men were a much better outfit in the second half. And Walcott finished past Cech expertly, after a fine reverse pass from Cazorla. However, a cutting edge in their attack ensured that Rafa Benitez’s men held on to win.

Across town, in North London, Clint Dempsey scored deep into stoppage time, to clinch a 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Alex Ferguson’s men had led for most of the match, thanks to Robin van Persie’s header, which came against the run of play. In the second half, Spurs dug deep and pinned United back. They got their reward, with almost the last kick of the game, after Dempsey pounced on a loose ball, to score the equaliser.
