EPL Watch: Arsenal thrash Wigan to send FA Cup winners down into Championship

Arsenal moved back into fourth position in the league on Tuesday night, thanks to a 4-1 drubbing of Wigan Athletic at the Emirates.

The Lactics arrived in North London, on the back of a shock win over Manchester City on Saturday, to lift the FA Cup. However, it was the Gunners who started brightly, passing with authority and dictating the play. It was not long before Lukas Podolski headed the hosts in front.

Arsene Wenger’s men could not add to their opening goal and were stunned in the closing stages of the first half, after Shaun Maloney curled in an exquisite free-kick.

The leveller seemed to give the visitors the impetus, as they started the second half on the front foot. However, it was Theo Walcott who struck again to give Arsenal the lead. Cazorla, who put in another magical display, released Podolski, who calmly lifted the ball over Joel Robles.

Aaron Ramsey added gloss, with a run and finish from the left, effectively sending Roberto Martinez’s men down.
