Arsenal had Per Mertesacker to thank, for their dull 1-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage. The Gunners played poorly for most of the game, after Steve Sidwell saw red for a nasty tackle on Mikel Arteta early on.

Arsene Wenger’s men laboured through the second half, amidst pressure from the home side and had Olivier Giroud sent off in the dying minutes.

Stoke City climbed away from relegation places, while pushing Queens Park Rangers towards the Championship, with a 2-0 win at Loftus Road. Matt Jarvis and Kevin Nolan’s goals gave West Ham a 2-0 win over FA Cup finalists Wigan and Newcastle drew 1-1 away to West Brom.

Swansea and Southampton battled to a goalless draw and Norwich scored two quick goals to edge the relegation six-pointer against Reading.
