Former Liverpool and England left-back, Stephen Warnock has identified the club’s defender, Andy Robertson as one of the most influential players in the Premier League this season.
Robertson has impressed since he burst into the Reds squad midway through last season.
The Scotland captain initially struggled to get into Jurgen Klopp’s team after joining from Hull in the summer of 2017.
But he has now become one of the first names on the team-sheet in all competitions.
“He found it tough at first at Liverpool to get in the squad at all,” Warnock said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Jurgen Klopp said he probably wasn’t up to speed, he wasn’t what he wanted him to be, as in tactically aware of how they wanted him to play.
“Then he gave him his opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands and he hasn’t turned back since. I think that shows the character of him.
“It’s been talked a lot about the England squad that went to the World Cup in that they’d all been in lower leagues and sort of come to fruition and gone on to better things.
“I think he’s one of them players as well, obviously being a Scottish player though.
“He’s gone from lower leagues and he understands what it means now to stay at the top and he’s desperate to stay there.
“He’s been one of the stand out performers in the Premier League and in Liverpool’s team.
“You’re talking about Salah, Firmino, Mane – but he has been incredible for Liverpool and the Liverpool fans adore him.”
