EPL: Unai Emery told to make David Luiz Arsenal’s new captain

Arsenal legend, Nigel Winterburn, has urged the club manager, Unai Emery to make defender, David Luiz the Gunners’ new captain following the departure of Laurent Koscielny.

The 55-year-old former defender believes Luiz has the qualities to replace Koscielny as Arsenal’s new captain this season.

Luiz, who joined the North London from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, made his debut in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

“Emery should make David Luiz his captain for this season,” Winterburn told Sportingbet.

“He has the ability to be that Tony Adams figure in Arsenal’s backline.

“I know he’s new, but that doesn’t worry me at all. A captain needs to be someone that’s vocal, someone that’s not scared to make people aware of their responsibilities within a game just because they might upset them for five minutes.”
