Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry has reacted to claims that he played a role in Alexis Sanchez’s decision to leave Arsenal for Manchester United.
The Chilean international completed a move to Old Trafford on Monday which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way in a straight swap.
Sanchez interestingly cited Henry as having had a major influence on his decision.
He explained: “I remember today, a conversation I had with Henry, a historic Arsenal player, who changed club for the same reason and today is my turn.”
This attracted calls from some fans to remove Henry’s statue from outside the Emirates.
Reacting, Henry said he had no hand in Sanchez’s decision to dump the Gunners for the Red Devils.
Henry wrote on Twitter, “know I don’t need to explain this to the majority of Arsenal fans but contrary to speculation at no time did I tell Alexis Sanchez to leave Arsenal.
“I had no idea he was going to sign for Man Utd until I saw it on the news like the rest of you.”
The former Barcelona player will wear the iconic No.7 at United and is in line to make his debut for his new club in the FA Cup on Friday against Yeovil Town.
