Manchester United beat Everton 2-0 on New Year’s Day, to move back into second place on the Premier League table.
Jose Mourinho’s men failed to find the breakthrough in the first half of the match played at Goodison Park, as the home side defended resolutely.
However, Anthony Martial broke their resistance with a brilliant curling effort from outside the box, to make it 1-0 in the second half.
Jesse Lingard made sure the points were safe late on with another superb strike from a Paul Pogba pass.
United now have 47 points, 12 behind rivals Manchester City, who are in action on Tuesday.
Liverpool consolidated their grip on fourth place, with a 2-1 comeback win at Burnley, while Leicester City hammered Huddersfield 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.
