Tottenham Hotspur needed a late Christian Eriksen strike, to defeat a resolute Crystal Palace side 1-0 on Wednesday and cut Chelsea’s lead at the top to four points.
The North London team lost 4-2 to the Blues in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday and saw Antonio Conte’s men beat Southampton on Tuesday to go seven points clear.
However, they could not see off Sam Allardyce’s men easily at Selhurst Park and needed a long range effort from Eriksen to settle the tie.
Arsenal made it three wins in a row, with a 1-0 victory over champions Leicester City at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger’s men found it hard to break down the Foxes, before Nacho Monreal’s shot was deflected in by Robert Huth with four minutes left to play.
In a relegation six-pointer, Middlesbrough beat Sunderland 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium.
