EPL: Scholes, Neville identify two Man United players that caused 3-2 defeat to Brighton

Manchester United legends, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, have identified two players that caused the club’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton on Sunday.

Manchester United suffered a shock defeat in the hands of the Premier League newcomers on Sunday.

While Scholes blamed defender Victor Lindelof’s poor defending during the first half against Brighton, Neville said Eric Bailly caused the loss.

Lindelof was badly at fault for Glenn Murray’s opening goal and was nowhere to be seen when Shane Duffy slammed home a second, moments later.

Bailly was culpable for the concession of the penalty which was converted by Pascal Gross just before the break.

“I think the bad reaction there is from Lindelof,” Scholes told Sky Sports.

“Once that ball goes into the middle he has to come across and close that space.

“He’s gone [wide] to receive the ball, look how slow he is getting back. He’s even thinking of playing offside there, which is crazy.”

Neville added, “There’s five centre backs at the club. Is there a pair among them who you would trust to take you to a title?

“That’s the question Jose [Mourinho] needs to answer.

“Every single United defender… they’re rash, they make tackles they don’t have to.

“It’s really poor from Bailly, it’s so poor. Jose will hate what he’s seeing. All of them [the defenders] dive in, every single one of them. He will be absolutely fuming.

“You have to hang in there when your’re not playing well. The mistakes at the back. There’s no need to tackle, you’ve got to keep your composure.

“He’s complaining, winging, moping around.”
