Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has said that his players must improve defensively against the likes of Liverpool, Man United and others if they want to win this season’s Premier League title.
Sarri stated this following his side’s 3-1 victory over BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Sarri’s side are unbeaten in their first nine matches this campaign in the English topflight league but have conceded seven goals so far.
The Italian has, however, insisted that his side must stop conceding goals against top teams in the Premier League if they want to stand a chance of winning the title.
“We could have done better in the last 20 minutes against BATE,” Metro UK quoted Sarri as saying.
“We needed only to move the ball and take positions.
“But we conceded spaces to the opponents so at the end we conceded a very stupid goal. I didn’t like it – it’s very dangerous.
“If we make the same mistakes against very high-level opponents, we are in trouble.
“Like against Liverpool and Manchester United. So we need to control the matches much better, especially when we are in the advantage.
“Usually the winner [of the title] is the team who concedes the least. In Italy, anyway. So we have to improve defensively.”
Sarri’s men will take on Burnley in the Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.
