Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has vowed that the club will not sell their best players.
Sarri said this after Chelsea defeated Inter Milan via penalty shootouts in the second preseason game on Saturday.
Chelsea won the match 5-4 on penalties as goalkeeper Willy Caballero crucially denied Milan Skriniar, after the game ended 1-1 in the full time.
Sarri was also full of praise for striker Alvaro Morata – who had been linked with a move to Italy to make way for Juventus star Higuain – but the Spaniard appears to be winning over his manager in pre-season.
Sarri told postmatch press conference, “I’m still waiting for the best Morata,” when asked about a possible deal for Higuain that would effectively end Morata’s time at Chelsea.
“In the first match, Morata did not play very well, in Australia [in a 1-0 win over Perth Glory].
“But tonight, especially in the first 30 minutes, he improved a lot. I am satisfied and I am very confident in him for the future.”
Morata has been linked with a big-money move to AC Milan, while Eden Hazard is being chased by Real Madrid, and the Italian gaffer said he was only interested in players who want to be at Chelsea.
He continued, “We want to keep our best players – but I do not like this phrase ‘at all costs.’
“We want to keep our top players but only if they want to be here. We can try to convince some players but let’s see how it goes. We want to keep improving.”
