EPL: Sarri speaks on Gary Cahill joining Arsenal

Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, has spoken about Gary Cahill leaving the club for Arsenal.

Cahill has been frustrated by lack of playing time at the Stamford Bridge and Sarri noted that the player has failed to adapt to his (Sarri) football style.

The former Napoli boss was asked during his prematch conference on Wednesday if the former England international will join Arsenal.

He responded, “I respect him very much because he won everything with this club, so I have to respect him. Then I have to do my job. Every day I have to choose, for every match I have to choose.

“For me it’s not easy to put him on the bench. Because maybe he’s the best of our defenders inside the box, but I have to think that our centre-backs usually play about 100-110 balls in the match.

“So I need defenders very technical. I don’t know. Of course it is not my decision, the problem is up to him and up to the club.

“He’s in the last year of the contract and so of course he has to decide for a new contract here or for a new contract with another club.

“You know very well that for the over 30s the club usually offers only one year of contract and so if he has an offer of three years, of course he can decide for something else. It doesn’t depend if I’m sentimental or not.”
