Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri has confirmed David Luiz will have a “very important” role to play for Chelsea in the season ahead.
The 31-year-old Luiz, fell down the pecking order under former manager, Antonio Conte, making only nine Premier League starts under the Italian last term.
However, the Brazilian was handed a lifeline following the appointment of Sarri earlier this summer.
The former PSG defender was preparing to leave Chelsea prior to Conte’s departure but he has shelved those plans and now hopes to work his way back into the starting XI at Stamford Bridge.
Asked about Luiz’s future during his press conference on Friday, Sarri said, “I’m very happy with David for his attitude, I’m very happy. ‘I think David will be very important for the team and also for me.”
Sarri also speaks on England forward, Ruben Loftus-Cheek after the midfielder returned from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.
The 22-year-old joined up with his team-mates at Cobham earlier this week after representing England at the World Cup.
Sarri, however, was not sure of his ability.
The Italian added, “Loftus I have seen him just for three or four trainings so I want to wait to judge,” the Italian said.
