EPL: Sarri reveals real reasons he left Napoli for Chelsea

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has revealed the reasons behind his departure from Napoli for Chelsea this summer.

Sarri said he only found out he was leaving the club when he saw his successor Carlo Ancelotti paraded on club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis’ TV channel.

Napoli fell agonisingly short of the Serie A title during Sarri’s final season in charge, finishing four points behind Juventus in 2nd after leading for much of the campaign.

Sarri left Napoli after three years at the helm in order to join Chelsea but only after a contract dispute between him and the Italian club had been

The Italian has admitted that he wasn’t happy when he found out Ancelotti had replaced him but added that he is enjoying a new challenge with Chelsea in the Premier League.

“I was having dinner with Cristiano Giuntoli’s [Napoli sporting director] assistant and we were debating whether I should have stayed or not,” Sarri was quoted by Metro.

“We turned on the television right in the second when Ancelotti was walking in Filmauro [president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ film studio]. I wasn’t happy.

“But now I have Chelsea and I’m happy. Here it’s a party, it’s a pleasure to arrive at the stadium and see supporters wearing different shirts having a beer together.

“I don’t know why I’m not still at Napoli. There were motives for me to stay there, but also a few doubts.

“The president pretended to sign a contract with a buy-out clause expiring on May 31, but they signed Ancelotti on May 21

“I didn’t want that clause, and they didn’t respect the timings. But I’m grateful to De Laurentiis, because he gave me the opportunity to coach the team I have in my heart.”
