Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, has revealed that striker Olivier Giroud will stay at the club next season. This is despite speculations that the star could leave. The France star’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and rumours had linked him with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Giroud, 32, had recently voiced displeasure over his lack of playing time this season, having only started seven league games this term.
The World Cup winner, in fact, only played two full games in the Premier League, and has seen his game time come in the Europa League and League Cup.
However, Chelsea have a one year option on his contract for next season.
And Sarri confirmed on Friday that the club had decided to take up that option.
“He is sure, because the club has an option for another year, another season,” Sarri told Sky Sports.
“I spoke to the club two days ago and we agreed to exercise the option.”
The Blues are currently preparing to begin a two-window transfer ban by FIFA, prohibiting them from signing any new players until the summer of 2020.
This means that the club is highly unlikely to accept any bid for players unless they have a replacement ready.
