EPL: Robinho explains why he did not do well at Manchester City

Former Manchester City star, Robinho has revealed why he didn’t do well at the Etihad Stadium.

According to Robinho, he did not perform well at City because he wasn’t surrounded by great players during his time with the Premier League champions.

The ex-Brazilian international joined City from Real Madrid for £32.5 million in 2008.

The 34-year-old was meant to be the man to kick start City’s new chapter but it never really worked out at the Etihad, with the last six months of his Citizens career spent on loan at Brazilian side, Santos.

He, however, scored 14 goals in 41 league games for the Citizens before he moved to AC Milan for half of his City fee after 18 months in the Premier League and won a Serie A winner’s medal in his first season in Italy.

“At Milan, I was surrounded by great players; it wasn’t the same at City,” Robinho told FourFourTwo.

“From the day I arrived, I could see City’s project was destined to be a success and the club would grow – but I didn’t think it would be quite so fast,” he added.

“I didn’t know much about the club before I got there, but I always felt very honoured to have been the first marquee signing.

“I started well, but unfortunately there weren’t as many great names as there are these days. Man City are the only side I’ve left without winning a title.”
