EPL Review: City win second title in three years, Spurs trump United to last Europa spot

Manchester City EPL 2013-2014

Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany scored for Manchester City, as they won the English Premier League for the 2013/2014 season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men needed just a point to be confirmed as champions, after they hammered Aston Villa 4-0 in mid-week. They took the lead late in the first half, after Nasri smashed in an effort from outside the box. Kompany doubled the lead early in the second half, punishing the Hammers for slack defending.

Liverpool, who were hoping that City would slip, did themselves no favours after Martin Skrtel deflected a cross past his own keeper to put Newcastle one goal up. Although Daniel Agger and Daniel Sturridge turned the tie around, events at the Etihad ensured they finished in second place.

Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson scored for Arsenal, as they beat Norwich City 2-0 at Carro Road. Chelsea came from behind to beat Cardiff City 2-1 in Wales, while Manchester United drew 1-1 with Southampton.

Relegated Fulham drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage, Swansea beat Sunderland 3-1 and Everton won away to Hull City 2-0. Tottenham Hotspur clinched the last Europa ticket available, with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa.
