Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, has revealed that “personal reasons” were behind ex-Blues’ goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois’s decision to force through a transfer move to Real Madrid.
Courtois was heavily linked with the Real Madrid all summer and even went on strike to realise his dream to join the La Liga giants.
The Blues had to signed 23-year-old Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for a world-record £71.6million fee as Courtois’ replacement.
Courtois’ two Madrid-based children were a major factor behind him pushing for a move to the Spanish capital.
The Italian manager, however, has refused to blame the shot-stopper for going missing from the club’s training ground towards the end of the transfer window.
Metro Uk quoted the former Napoli coach to have said, “I don’t know. I think there were some personal reasons, so I cannot go on personal reasons,” when asked about Courtois’s behaviour.
