EPL: Paul Scholes advises Man United against sacking Mourinho

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has given his verdict on whether the club should sack manager, Jose Mourinho this season.

Mourinho is under pressure at the Old Trafford after playing four games without a win in their last four matches.

Mourinho’s men lost 8-7 against Frank Lampard’s Derby County on penalties in the Carabao Cup, played 1-1 against Wolves in the Premier League, lost 3-1 against West Ham and played a goalless draw against Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Portuguese faces a crucial clash against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday with reports suggesting he could lose his job if United lose again.

Scholes, however, urged United not to sack Mourinho despite the club’s poor outings this season.

“The big thing with Manchester United is the effort and the attitude,” Scholes told ESPN.

“When you looked at the West Ham game last week, that looked like the biggest sign of players not wanting to play for Jose, but I would not sack him.

“I hope the situation is retrievable. I’d like Jose to show people why he’s such a great coach, because this is his biggest test in football.”

Asked whether Mourinho had ‘lost the dressing room’ and whether this could explain their recent poor performances.

Scholes added, “It’s hard for me to say because I was never in a team, be it Man United or England, where I went out with the intention of getting a manager sacked.

Scholes won 11 Premier League titles at United during his time at Old Trafford and played over 700 games.
