Former Arsenal star, Paul Merson has said that AC Millan loanee, Gonzalo Higuain faces an uphill battle to succeed where Alvaro Morata has failed at Chelsea.
The Blues have reportedly agreed a loan deal with Juventus for Higuain until the end of the season, which would be automatically extended for a further 12 months if he meets various targets, and Maurizio Sarri wants to have him in the squad in time, to face Arsenal at the weekend.
The Argentina international enjoyed his most prolific ever campaign under Sarri in their one and only season together at Napoli, netting a career-high 36 goals to earn a move to Turin but has struggled since his move to San Siro and Merson fears he is unlikely to find the going any easier in the Premier League.
“I’m not sure on him,” Metro UK quoted Merson as saying.
“He was a great player but looks below his best of late. He hasn’t pulled up trees for a while and now he’s coming to the hardest league in the world.
“He won’t have any time to adapt either as he needs to hit the ground running as Chelsea need someone to play as their focal point.
“I’d rather someone that has played in the Premier League before and knows what this league demands.”
