EPL: Our victory over Palace not out of luck – Mourinho

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho says his side deserved to beat Crystal Palace in their Wednesday night Premier League game.

Both sides were separated by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 88th minute strike but the Portuguese claims the Red Devils were too much for Palace to handle.

James McArthur cancelled out Paul Pogba’s opener with a well-worked team goal, and it appeared the Eagles had done enough to secure a much-needed point.

But United did enough to break Palace resistance and keep pace with the league top five.

The former Real Madrid coach said it was not by luck that his team came out with all three points, as they controlled majority of the game.

He told journalists after the match, “We deserved, we were the best team.

“They had a little reaction and they scored the goal in that period, then we had the best period in the game.

“In the first half we had control but in the last 20 minutes we were super dominant, we created a lot and we won in the end fairly deservedly.”

He insists that his side, currently sixth-placed are playing well enough to be challenging the teams at the top.

He added, “We are doing enough for that [to be in the top six]. If we had the points we lost at home with draws in matches that we did more than enough to win we would be close to the top of the league.

“But we lost these points and in this moment we are just closing the gap to the top four positions, so let’s try.

“There are three more matches until the end of the year and let’s see how it ends on December 31 and we can feel then and smell what is possible to do in the second part of the season.”
