Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, is backing Manchester City to win the Premier League title, despite Liverpool piling the pressure on their title rivals by beating Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Reds appeared to be set to drop two points at St James’ Park, only for second-half substitute Divock Origi to flick home a crucial winner.
The 3-2 win took Liverpool up to 94 points, two more than City, who host Leicester on Monday.
City face Brighton on the final day of the season and Neville cannot see Pep Guardiola’s side dropping points despite the enormous pressure from Liverpool.
“Historically I would have said that would have been a killer blow [for Manchester City] tonight.
“But it’s looking like we’re just going to see two months’ of flawless results and each team are going to win every game until the end.
“I can’t believe it – I still can’t believe what I’m watching.
“I think City will win on Monday and beat Brighton, and I think Liverpool will beat Wolves. At this moment in time there isn’t anything happening to suggest [either team will drop points].
“Liverpool will be hoping something else happens on Monday of course,” Neville told Sky Sports.
He added: “That’s the best of Liverpool’s eight wins in a row.
“That is what a title race is; a team is flagging, showing signs of vulnerability, they’re losing players, they could have had a man sent off, the crowd is up for it, it’s a Saturday night…
“Newcastle were at it and it had all the hallmarks of what you’ve historically seen, like Crystal Palace in 2014, it had everything written all over it.
“For Liverpool to come through that, they can be proud.
“They weren’t at it, they looked dishevelled, the team was all over the place, there was no shape, they were panicking, it was rash, but they got through it. That’s all that matters.
“They’ve kept Man City honest, which is the main thing. You need one of those on the road to the title, and they need City to now help them in terms of dropping points.”
