Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has explained his decision to drop new signing Fred for their 2-0 win over Burnley on Sunday.
The Red Devils parted with £52million to land the Brazilian from Shakhtar Donetsk in this summer’s transfer window and he started the first three fixtures of the season.
But Mourinho opted to leave him on the bench and didn’t even bring him on as a substitute, as Romelu Lukaku’s brace sealed three points.
Instead, the Portuguese selected Marouane Fellaini in the middle of the park, handing the Belgium international his first start of the new season.
Explaining his decision, Mourinho told UK Mirror: “They are physical, they are direct. They go very direct to the box, they try to create crossing situations, they try to have lots of set pieces.
“They are very pragmatic and we thought that we need a little bit of Marouane’s physicality for that.”
