Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has mocked his player, Phil Jones after the defender’s own goal ensured a 2-0 victory for Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday.
Jones, who started the match alongside Chris Smalling in central defence, was caught off guard as Harry Kane beat him to a header to set up Christian Eriksen’s opener in the 11th second.
The evening soon got even worse for Jones as the England defender fired the ball into his own net in the 28th minute following Kieran Trippier’s cross.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Mourinho said “The second goal was unlucky, Jones was very unlucky.
“He scored a great goal, that Harry Kane would have been proud of!”
Explaining further why his side lost the game, Mourinho said he was frustrated that the players made such a bad mistake so early on in the match.
The Portuguese added, “We made a bad mistake in the first goal. It was a mistake by the whole team because they watch videos and analyse Spurs’ kick-off.
“They know the way they do it.
“They know Kane starts in an integral position to win some meters. It was a really bad goal
“It was a good reaction for ten minutes, good crosses in the face of goal, we were there.
“But the second goal mentally killed us and gave Spurs chance to play the way they want to play.”
