Former Liverpool defender, Dominic Matteo, has advised Manchester United to sign Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante as Ander Herrera’s replacement at the club.
Herrera is set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain this summer, after growing frustrated with Manchester United’s offer.
The midfielder reportedly reached a pre-contract agreement with the French champions and will join them July 1.
The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and was demanding a big increase to his current £130,000-a-week salary, to stay with the Old Trafford giants.
Man United refused to sanction Herrera’s £200,000-a-week wage demands, despite PSG’s attempts to land the Spanish midfielder on a free transfer.
Matteo believes Solskjaer’s side should sign Kante because he is currently the “best holding midfielder in the world”.
“[N’Golo] Kante’s been playing in that position for Chelsea,” Matteo said on the Man On The Street show.
“But it doesn’t look like he’s going to get a game there in front of Jorginho.
“For United, he would definitely be top of the list.”
Matteo added: “Kante is probably the best holding midfielder in world football.
“If United play Herrera and [Nemanja] Matic together, there’s not enough creativity.
“One player should sit and control things as the rest of them get forward.
“The top sides need to get players in the box.”
