EPL: Manchester United reveals who’s responsible for Mourinho, club’s crisis

Manchester United have identified the real cause of Jose Mourinho’s recent problems at the club.

Mourinho managed to win United’s opening game of the season against Leicester City and fell 3-2 to Brighton the following week.

Now, the club has suggested that the Portuguese current state of mind may have been caused by the surprise decision of Rui Faria to step down as his assistant manager.

Mourinho’s working relationship with Faria dated back to 2002 but ‘family reasons’ convinced the latter to quit United after last season’s FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

Faria had followed Mourinho from Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid and United.

United’s hierarchy fear that a change in personnel in the Old Trafford dugout is having a negative impact this term.

Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna were both added to United’s first-team coaching staff in the summer but it appears Mourinho is still recovering from Faria’s departure.

A club source told Starsport, “Rui was the only person prepared to stand up to Jose in the past and talk some sense into him at times. They were best mates and inseparable.

“Even this could lead to fall-outs, but Jose respected him more than anyone else.

“Now Rui has gone and isn’t by his side, who knows what could happen? Jose is off the leash and who is going to control him?”
