Manchester United players are reportedly questioning Jose Mourinho over his reluctance to drop Nemanja Matic.
Matic has been ever present in United’s starting XI since his move from Chelsea in the summer of 2017.
But the 30-year-old has now come under scrutiny after a string of average displays this season.
The Serb has come under renewed criticism following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Manchester City.
Matic was partly to blame for Ilkay Gundogan’s goal that sealed the game at the Etihad, after some lacklustre marking of the former Borussia Dortmund man.
According to The Times, Mourinho’s refusal to drop him is beginning to cause tension inside United’s dressing room.
It’s claimed that staff and players have been left bemused by Mourinho’s unwavering support of Matic despite the midfielder’s lack of mobility causing serious concern.
Matic made 35 starts in the Premier League for the Red Devils last term and has started nine of the side’s 12 opening matches this season.
