Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has blamed his defenders for the howler by his goalkeeper Alisson Becker in their 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday.
The German tactician said he expected the mistake but urged his players to stop putting their goalkeeper in difficult situations.
Alisson’s mistake came after three wayward passes from Liverpool players put the Reds under pressure.
Joe Gomez kicked off the shaky sequence, and Jordan Henderson played a poor pass to Virgil van Dijk before the defender responded in kind in Alisson’s direction
Instead of booting the ball, the Brazilian first choice goalie tried to turn the onrushing Kelechi Iheanacho, who got the ball from him and set up Rachid Ghezzal for a tap-in.
Klopp was furious on the touchline with Alisson’s decision-making, but insisted all his players need to think better on their feet. “I thought it would happen,” Klopp told Sky Sports.
“I didn’t think it would happen in the next match. He knows it, we need to get used to it.
“We constantly get the ball to the keeper but the player need to learn there are other solutions.
“Joe (Gomez) could have cleared the ball, Alisson could have too. That is how it is. He is a fantastic goalkeeper, makes some fantastic saves.
“He didn’t do what he was supposed to but all good.”
It was the first goal scored against Liverpool this season but the Reds remain unbeaten and ensured they maintained their 100 per cent start.
Liverpool scored twice in the first half, but faded in the second and Klopp thinks the hot weather played a part in their performance.
Klopp added, “We could have scored earlier in the game, I said a few times in the past a dry pitch mean not good football, Leicester wanted to be aggressive but couldn’t because we moved so well.”
