EPL: Klopp fires back at Mourinho over trophy comments

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has dismissed Jose Mourinho’s suggestion that he is under pressure to win the Premier League title this season, after heavy investment in the transfer market.

Mourinho recently said that Klopp must earn his first honour as Liverpool manager in 2018/2019, following the big-money signings of Naby Keita, Fabinho and goalkeeper Alisson this summer.

But the German has laughed off the Manchester United boss’ comments, stating that moves in the transfer market do not necessarily guarantee success.

“One of my biggest goals in life is to make Jose smile — it doesn’t happen very often.

“I don’t even think it is a mind game, I think it is normal. I would never talk about Manchester United if no one asked me about it.

“I have no problem with what Jose Mourinho is saying, it is a free world and he can say whatever he wants. If he is happy about our transfers even better.

“We know it doesn’t mean you win [trophies] automatically,” he told reporters at their pre-season base in the US.
