Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, has admitted Liverpool will be worthy champions, if they win the title this year.
City are four points behind the Reds, following their 3-0 win over Huddersfield on Sunday.
De Bruyne says his team-mates will have to acknowledge Liverpool were better if they do win the Premier League, even if it means the Blues end up with the most points ever for a runner-up.
Manchester United’s 2011/2012 side are the current holders of that unwanted record with 89 points.
And De Bruyne accepts Pep Guardiola’s side could earn 90 points and still finish only second.
“Then you would just have to take it as it is and say, ‘We had a good season, but someone was better’ and congratulate them.
“We try to do the best as possible, but in the end if Liverpool get more points it is because they deserve it.
“Obviously you always want to win it, but if you get a season where you’re runners-up with 90 points, there’s not a lot you can say afterwards.
“There’s always luck involved. If you want to win something, you need luck, you need good form, everybody needs to be on it. It’s a consequence of everything,” he said, according to the UK Mirror.
