Former Arsenal striker, Ian Wright, has said that Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, made a major mistake following their 1-0 defeat to Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.
A first-half goal from Phil Jagielka ensured Everton defeated Arsenal at Goodison Park.
Following the defeat, Emery was complimentary of his team’s performance and said they lost one big opportunity and also didn’t show their best performance.
But Wright believes the Spanish gaffer made a mistake in his team’s selection by not starting influential stars, Aaron Ramsey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang against the hosts.
“I was a little bit disappointed with Arsenal’s selection,” Wright said on Match of Day 2.
“They’re in fourth position, no-one would have thought at the start of the season that it would have happened like it has.
“So it was an opportunity to start Aubameyang, start Lacazette, get Ozil on the pitch, start with Ramsey – get your best players on the pitch and really have a go at Everton.
“I thought we missed a trick in that respect. In the end, Everton had the impetus…I think it was fortunate that they didn’t get another goal.”
