EPL: How PSG star’s attempt to move to Chelsea failed

Chelsea goalkeeping coach, Christophe Lollichon has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola wanted to move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Areola came through the youth ranks at PSG, having loan spells at Lens, Bastia and Villarreal, before establishing himself at the Parc des Princes.

According to Lollichon, the France shot-stopper wanted to join the West London club but the decision was not for him to make.

“We had a lot of discussions this summer, in a very reasoned way,” Lollichon told French daily Le Figaro.

“He wanted to come here, but the final decision was not my responsibility.

“It would have been a pleasure working with him,” he said.

Areola was the star of the show last night as World Cup winners, France drew 0-0 with Germany in the UEFA Nations League.

The 25-year-old, who is battling with Italy legend, Gianluigi Buffon for starting honours at PSG, kept the visitors in the game with several sensational saves.
