Liverpool made a sensational offer of €70million and Philippe Coutinho in a bid to sign Gareth Bale.
This is the claim made in a new book, ‘PSG: Revelations of a Revolution’ written by Edicions Amphora.
Amphora claimed that Liverpool tried to tempt Real Madrid into selling Bale last summer, by offering Coutinho and a lump sum.
It is understood that Jurgen Klopp was eager to add the Welsh winger to his squad, knowing that he was going to lose Coutinho to Barcelona.
“Contrary to what happens in Barcelona, the Brazilian does not generate consensus in Madrid. Florentino Perez always thinks in reality in Mbappe, like PSG, so a sale of Bale to Paris could eventually satisfy everyone, in a three-pool billiard game if the Neymar operation collapsed,” Amphora says.
PSG went on to sign up both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe leaving Madrid pretty much empty handed.
