EPL: How Kante contributed to Arsene Wenger’s resignation as Arsenal boss – Favard

French pundit, Gilles Favard, has said that Arsene Wenger’s failure to sign N’Golo Kante for Arsenal was “career suicide” and contributed to the 68-year-old’s downfall at the Emirate Stadium.

After playing a key role in Leicester City’s Premier League title victory, Kante was wanted by several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.

But the French midfielder joined Chelsea for £30 million.

The 68-year-old Frenchman had on two occasions admitted failing to sign Kante.

Favard, who has worked as an adviser at Nantes and Bordeaux, claimed that Wenger paid a high price for missing out on the 27-year-old.

“People around this table know how profound my respect is for Arsene Wenger, but N’Golo Kante participated in the retirement of Arsene Wenger,” Favard told L’Équipe du Soir.

“The day that Wenger decided not sign Kante, he committed career suicide.

“N’Golo Kante is indispensable in a football team. He is the first name that you put down on a team-sheet. When you have 11 players to pick, you pick them around him.”
