EPL: Guardiola singles out four Man City players over 0-0 draw with Liverpool

Man City boss, Pep Guardiola has praised four of his defenders, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker, after his side’s goalless draw with Liverpool in the Premier League fixture played on Sunday.

Guardiola described his back four as “incredible” and “good” in the defense.

Asked what he made of the performance of his team following their 0-0 draw against Jurgen Klopp’s side, Guardiola was quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying: “In the build-up, they (Stones and Laporte) had pace and rhythm and could read which men were free and we were so so good, defensive is not easy when Liverpool put so much pressure on the ball.

“Stones and Laporte are good and they are so young but they need experience in games like today on big stages like Anfield against maybe the most dangerous three strikers in the world.”

Guardiola admitted that he was impressed with right back, Kyle Walker and left back, Benjamin Mendy, who returned to the starting line up having been sidelined over an injury.

“I also have a lot of credit for Kyle (Walker) today and how he controlled (Sadio) Mane,” he added.

“And Mendy, it was three weeks injured and training maybe two or three times and he made a performance not just defensively but offensively.

“The back four were outstanding today and they helped us to be confident.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola’s men will take on Burnley in their next Premier League fixture.
