Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has said that his players will not decide who will become the club’s captain for the upcoming 2018-2019 season until Midfielder Fernandinho returns to City’s pre-season squad.
Guardiola stated this ahead of Manchester City’s FA Community Shield clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
The armband is up for grabs following Vincent Kompany’s exit from the club after 11 years earlier this summer.
Kompany has now taken up a player-coach role at Anderlecht, the club where he started his career.
“Until Fernandinho returns, the players will not choose the captain to replace Kompany,” Guardiola was quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying.
“When Ferna is back, the players will decide. that’s when we choose.”
