Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness has said that former Manchester United star, Ryan Giggs, is the man to replace Jose Mourinho at the club. He said Giggs is the man to solve the “disaster” at Old Trafford. Giggs is the current Wales manager after he was snubbed by Manchester United in favour of Mourinho in 2016.
The Welshman had been assistant manager to Louis van Gaal with the idea of preparing him for the top job.
And now Mourinho’s position at the club is in doubt after a tough start to the season which has seen them lose three league games and crashed out of the Carabao Cup.
Mourinho has insisted he is unfazed by the speculation surrounding him.
But speaking as a pundit on Virgin Media Sport’s coverage of United’s 0-0 draw with Valencia last night, Souness blasted the club, calling their current situation a disaster and said Giggs was the man to take over.
“I wouldn’t go with Zidane,” he said.
“I don’t think they want another big one given a short space of time to get it right.
“If I was having a say, I would be looking at, sounds daft, Ryan Giggs.
“Someone that will be given more time going forward to get it right.
“It doesn’t have to be a spending splurge again.
“It has to be someone this time round that will be given time because of his affection and his history with the football club.
“They’ve tried Van Gaal, they’ve tried [David] Moyes, who knew his way in the Premier League.
“They’ve gone for arguably the biggest name in Mourinho and it’s been an unmitigated disaster just spending big money chasing it.
“And that’s when you make mistakes.”
