EPL: Evra mocks ‘baby team’ Arsenal, reveals what van Persie said about Gunners

Manchester United legend, Patrice Evra has dismissed Arsenal as a ‘baby team.’

He said former Arsenal player, Robin van Persie realized he had joined a ‘proper’ club when he left the club for Manchester United.

Van Persie completed a shock £22million move to the Theatre of Dreams in 2012 when Sir Alex Ferguson convinced Arsene Wenger to let the player go.

The Dutchman scored 30 goals in his debut season to inspire United to their 20th league title.

And Evra, who regularly baited Gunners during his time at United, said Persie benefitted by playing for a team of ‘men’.

He told ITV, “I give you an example when Robin van Persie joined Man United. First of all when he came I said ‘welcome to a proper team, a man team, not a baby team’.

“And he laughed, but he understood straight away because I remember him saying ‘Patrice, to be fair, I just feel like now I’m playing for a big team because all of you win many trophies, many medals, and you still go in the gym before training, going in the gym after training’.

“Robin was like a kid, he was just like amazed about that. When he looked at us he’d say like ‘when I see all of you guys, I have to work hard because I want to win, I want to win trophies.’”

Van Persie played for Manchester United for three seasons before joining Turkish club, Fenerbahce.
