EPL: Emery explains why Torreira was substituted in Arsenal’s win over Bournemouth

Arsenal coach, Unai Emery has explained why he substituted midfielder, Lucas Torreira in his side’s 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in Sunday’s Premier League fixture.

A second half goal from striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ensured victory for Emery’s side at the Vitality Stadium.

Emery said he substituted Torreira because the midfielder needed to rest after playing two games for his country during the last international break.

The Spaniard, however, praised the Uruguay international for giving the Gunners balance against the hosts.

Speaking on why he substituted Torreira, Emery was quoted by Metro UK as saying: “He was giving us good balance, but also we need to be clever with the player because he played with his national team two matches.”

Emery added: “We thought about how we can be better in the match today, with a very demanding match physically with their intensity against us and we came to that decision.

“But every player is important. Also today we tried with three centre-backs. It’s another opportunity to improve and find our best performance.

“The result is very important. We spoke in the dressing room at half-time, the process is our mentality The result is very important.”

Emery’s men will tackle Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday in the Premier League fixture.
