EPL: Conte speaks on changing Chelsea formation to suit Giroud

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, said he is considering a new formation following the arrival of Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.

The Italian said he is considering playing with two top strikers to accommodate both club-record signing Alvaro Morata and Giroud.

The two players are yet to be on the field at the same time, with Giroud being withdrawn after an hour of his full debut in Monday night’s victory over West Brom.

Morata replaced him and looked lively in his first appearance in a month.

The former Juventus boss is now considering turning his two forwards into a partnership even though it would require a change in formation.

Asked if he is thinking about playing his two strikers together, Conte said, “I think that in the future yes, it could happen.

“If we decide to play with the three midfielders. But during the game can happen, but now I think it’s very soon to answer this question.

“Don’t forget we are playing with a system from last season and in the case [I play with two strikers] it means Hazard, Pedro and Willian are out.

“Yeah for sure, in this moment it’s important to have all your players available.

“To have two No.9s, Morata and Giroud, to have two options is very important for us. Don’t forget for a lot of time we tried to play with Hazard as a No.9!”

Both Giroud and Morata are fit for Friday’s FA Cup tie at home to Hull City.
